This place is amazing! My wife and I came here celebrating out anniversary. The ambiance is wonderful, service was excellent! My wife had the chicken and I had the fillet food was cooked to perfection. They only serve local craft beer plus amazing wine. After dinner we tried the cheesecake which was delish!!!

The Alley House is definitely one of the best restaurants in Pagosa. It is also probably the fanciest if you are looking for a nice date night. The bar is awesome and usually whoever is bartending is very knowledgeable about the drinks and wines. Try a mojito. Their's are the BEST! The service is awesome, every time. The mussels in the green curry sauce are absolutely amazing. It is served with a side of fresh garlic bread for dipping. Order some extra bread because you will want to get every drop of sauce out of that bowl. I guarantee it. Also remember when you order them that you are in a LAND LOCKED state. The seafood is as fresh as it gets in a small town in Colorado. Once you accept that fact you can move on and enjoy it.

It was a mixed bag for me. The steak was good, the garlic mashed potatoes were plain...and cold. The salmon was good, but not because if the seasons, it was just a good piece if fish. The couscous was bland. It was like they just boiled and served it with no seasoning. Also, I had made a reservation at 7.30 to sit in the patio but when I got there they said it would be a 45 minute wait. What was the point in making a reservation if they weren't going to honor it. They finally just sat us at the bar because it was taking jut so long. The service was mediocre. Bit slow, I heard other tables complain about this as well It was a super bummer because the reviews were so positive. I felt extremely let down.

Great food, amazing upscale atmoshpere. The fillet with garlic mashed potatoes was superb... one of the best Ive had! Sadly, 4 stars because our waiter was tweeking out the entire time, making things weird and also never came back to ask about how our meal was. Luckily my steak, although ordered medium well, was a bright rare but still delicious... Management should pay closer attention to who is serving their customers. It was pretty obvious after about 30 seconds... google "meth addict".

A pretty nice place to eat, I didn't really like the house salad that I got but the pizza was really good! Nice atmosphere too, decent service.

I dined here on Valentine's Day. Our waitress, Ivy, was very sweet and attentive, and our food was terrific!! I had the Thai Caesar salad and the blood orange cheesecake for dessert. They were both wonderful! I'd definitely return for a meal the next time I'm in town.

What a delight this place is. The ambience is so relaxing and the food is out of this world. We came in from Denver and this is our second time visiting this business and it is consistently amazing. We had a filet the first time and a ribeye the second visit... Both cooked to perfection! I love sitting at the bar and getting to know the folks who work there as well as the locals. We will definitely be back!

Honestly I'm upset that it's so far away from where I live in Texas. This is one of the better restaurants I've been to in my life. Every part of this meal was perfect. The glass that they served my Dr. Pepper in (I know I know dr pepper but I wasn't in the mood for wine) was modern and cool. Laugh all you want but you'll see what I mean if you give this place a shot. The shrimp appetizer was good, but there wasn't much of it for the price. Still, it's worth trying as it's something unique and delectable I had never tried before. I got the beef tenderloins (basically steak) and lobster. Let me just say, the lobster is the best I've ever had in my life. Seriously. It was so fresh, perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful (they had a sun dried tomato artichoke butter sauce on top of it) that I can't describe with words how fantastic it really is. I ordered the beef tenderloin medium rare as I always do with quality meat and it was melt in your mouth perfect. The cut with your fork tenderness aside, the flavor was epic. Explosions in your mouth even. I just couldn't get enough of it! And if that wasn't enough to make you slap the person next to you it was all laid out on a bed of whipped mashed potatoes and green beans. The green beans were glowing with flavor from a butter sauce and they had the perfect amount of crunch either being soggy and overcooked or under cooked and chewy. The potatoes were to die for, I think the real zinger there was the addition of cream with salt and butter in the potatoes. It was nothing shirt if jaw dropping. I will be back, and I will go out of my way to eat here again. You will spend some money here but it's worth every penny make no mistake.

This place is the highlight of our trip! I ordered the filet mignon and it was to die for with some of the best Cabernet sauce and whipped potatoes I have ever tasted. My husband ordered the grilled chicken breast with whipped potatoes and asparagus. We have zero complaints! We got the flourless chocolate cake with blackberry purée because of the great reviews from yelp and am so glad I did. My husband especially hates overly sweet desserts and loved this. It was dark chocolate with out the heaviness or bitterness. I wish we were staying longer just so I could go back to try more of the menu. Also, the service was amazing. I didn't know food could come out that fast. If nothing else, give this place a try.

Two stars because our waiter, Tim, was awesome but the manager was absolutely rude. We showed up a half hour before our reservation and were told to sit outside to wait. Finally we were seated inside and the manager told us to keep our beer a secret. Our waiter was awesome and suggested his favorites as well as gave us a heads up on their 'vegetarian' friendly food that was soaked in chicken broth. So my husband and I ordered the mushroom truffle pizza as an appetizer and we debated on the main dish. As we debated, the manager came over and to us we were disturbing other tables and needed to keep it down. Well happy anniversary to us. We decided to leave without ordering a main dish because the manager was so rude. Our waiter was great and apologized, as well as offered a free dessert for our anniversary, but we were so disturbed by the manager that we left. We will never return. Be kind to your customers and they will be kind to you.

We were out in pagosa for a wedding for my sister in law.. They are from Colorado so they knew of this plCe and wanted to hold their rehearsal dinner here it was for approx. 17-20 people they had reservations for 7 on a fri night.. We expected busy most of the wedding people Are in the restaurant business so we understand te workings We were seated in a lovely area underneath. Tent very pretty. We ordered our drinks from a blonde waitress never got her nAme because she didn't tell us but After we orders drjnks it took roughly 30mins to get them they kept coming out like 2 drinks At. Time so some people in the prty had theirs and the rest didn't it took her awhile to come back To let us know the bar was backed up again understandable it's. Fri night after 10 more mins we finally asked about my 8yr olds Shirley temple and she responded we have no glasses so my husband tried to give her his wAter glass to wash and she said we don't do that here she can wait.. Whatever most of us finally got out drjnks except for my husband who finally went to the bar and grabbed his own beer. Sad we then has apps which were great and a ceasars salads also good we then ordered off a set menu because it was a wedding pRry pre-paid it was chicken Seafood or steak most of us ordered steak The one really positive thing if the night was the food All the steaks were cooked perfect came out quick delicious the ny cheescake for desert was good even though u can't cAll it ny with how they made it lol when we all got out bills the were messed up at or table she overchRged us and when my husband pointed out she rang in two beers Nd he had one she said no I brought u two and then said forget it grabbed the check out of his hand and said I'll take it off walked away while he was talking and went to the back my husband is not a thief he had one beer one wine the way she handled it was horrible also they lost the credit card of my brother in lAw and swore they gave it back so for 5 mins they Argued they didn't have it then found it in a check presenter In the corner .. Overall I wouldn't go back here we felt extremely unwanted if it was to much they shouldn't hVe taken the reservation 2 mths Ago.. I get that they like their locals and outsiders are not welcome but most of the wedding party was from Denver Silverthorne and other parts of Colorado so bad Service And unprofessional.. I won't be back and I'll let everyone I see know not to go here when they visit

What a great find while driving through Pagosa Springs - Yelp did not let me down! This place used to be a house and it has been beautifully redone to house a wonderful restaurant. I ordered the lamb shank with goat cheese polenta. It was fabulous. Best lamb shank I have ever had - the sauce on it was outstanding as well. My gf ordered the pork chop with candied shallot demi glace and garlic mashed. She was pleased with her decision also. If we ever drive to Mesa Verde again this will be a must stop.

Salad and wine were exceptional. Ordered the elk for the main course and it was a disaster. I could barely cut into it with a steak knife, much less chew it. Great ambiance, great service, great wine, terrible elk.

We at here for the first time last night and it was wonderful We were just in town for the evening and at the recommendation of the bartender, as some patrons of our hotel, we took the short walk over. The decor was very pleasant, nice but without being overly formal. They had a nice selection of alcohols and wine, we selected a primativo from a vineyard we are a fan of. At the bartenders suggestion, we go the Seared tuna and green curry mussels. Both were fantastic, but the tuna was out of this world. Seared with black and white sesame seeds, and topped with a wasabi, soy cream sauce that was fantastic. Prices were reasonable, and service was adequate, but not exceptional. We came in at 8:30 and felt that they were really wanting us to leave halfway through our meal. Putting all the unused chairs up on tables was a not so subtle hint. We will probably avoid if we are in town and wanting a later dinner, but if you are eating on old people time this could be the place for you.

Went here while staying at The Springs for my husband's birthday. AMAZING food and service. I brought in a cake - as I had to have gluten free - and after our meal, the staff brought out the cake. One of the locals came over and sang to my husband - it was awesome! And the food - Best lamb you can find! A lady from Florida/Germany recommended this place to us, and she said it was the best lamb anywhere - and she travels the world. If you are in Pagosa Springs, don't miss this place.

Been to the Alley House about 6 times. The mountain man pizza is amazing!! And they have fantastic appetizers. Unfortunately, I have had more bad experiences with the food than better. With the new chef came a new menu. Foods are now drowned with fancy sauces and over dressed. The meat and fish are delicious, but beware of the overly dressed with sauces. Order with sauces or oils on the side. Wish they didn't take the pork chop off the menu!! It was hands down the best ever! Might return with strategic ordering.

  • Rodger N.

Just about as good as it gets. Service was attentive! Wife had Ahi Tuna, I had the Bass for entree's. Both were cooked to perfection, with delicious sides. Desert was a Cheesecake which we split and was exceptional. Definitely, requires a return trip to Pagosa.

Me and my buddy were craving a good piece of fish, some locals recommended this place, and it was freakin fantastic! Had the halibut with truffle whipped mash potatoes and broccolini! It was so money! Also had one of the best mussel apps as well! The mussels were served in a coconut green curry broth...bombtastic! For dessert, had the bread pudding, and that too was amazing! Can't wait to go back next year!

So So So incredible! In all fairness, I'm a sappy reviewer. I usually only review establishments that wow me, but this place really did! After a fantastic ski day (Wolf Creek), the need for tasty and plentiful sustenance was considerable! Alley House Grille made that happen! Their cocktails are fantastic and clearly made with some TLC. The appetizer list is challenging to slim down. For entree, I chose scallop ravioli. Yes, I'm well aware that ordering seafood in a middle of the Rockies small town seems weird. I actually went to school and lived in a coastal city, so I'm extra picky. The scallops were awesome! More so, my boyfriend had steak and lobster. The lobster was fantastic! Apparently, there is a small airport in Pagosa which makes this possible. Unsure on ordering dessert, our waitress comped us a delightfully crafted cupcake and fudge party favor instead. The setting is beautiful, the town is serene, and the restaurant is delish! Pay these guys a visit in you find yourself in Pagosa, seriously!

For being a small town this would probably be the best food in town, but being from Denver it was just ok. Started out with mussels and crab cakes... the crab cakes could use a little more flavor but the little salad they had with it had a great dressing. The mussels.. .well 1/2 were ok and the other 1/2 had a very odd taste to them and some were not even cooked all the way (being still closed) Our main courses were good but again nothing spectacular. Desserts were very good... apple crisp was warm and flavorful and the flour-less chocolate cake was thick and chocolaty just like I like it. The intimate feel of the restaurant was great, the bartender was quite fun and made my drinks well even though he was in training... our wine guy Chris was veryvery good at suggesting a great wine and we had 3 bottles between my family :) Overall it is the best for Pagosa so try it since you are in the town :)

Absolutely delicious. My entire family was at the restaurant and we received great prompt service. You didn't even notice the waiters; it was like your drinks were magically refilled. The food was perfect and timed perfectly. We had the house salad (house salads sound so common but this one was extraordinary), cheesy focaccia bread (heaven), steak with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Everything was on point with great beers and wines. Every family member said it was great.

I love Alley House & it is by far the best place to eat in Pagosa at this time. My family of six ate there recently & the food was excellent. We had several kinds of the pizza & the tuna. The only problem was we opted to sit outside and ended up slapping at mosquitos throughout the meal! They had a single citronella candle lit, but it wasn't helping. Sit inside unless they've made an effort to solve this. Nice atmosphere anyway.

Got a reservation just hrs before dinner when we walked in they seated us immediately. Very comfortable atmosphere. Tried the recommended special soft shell crab appetizer; it was great and served quickly. Main courses came out fast too and were tasty. Great place.

For being in a small tourist town, Alley House Grille really delivers a big city dining experience. We almost always stop in for dinner at the Alley House when we are in or driving through Pagosa Springs. We discovered this place via a recommendation from the front desk at The Hot Springs Resort, and we have never had a bad meal there. Sometimes the service is a ever so slightly spotty, but I attribute that to the fact that we usually arrive right before closing, and the only server on duty has other tasks to complete before going home. Even so, that spotty service is usually better than the regular service I get at other restaurants in Denver. One time we knew we weren't going to get into town before their kitchen closed, so we called in a to-go order. They timed everything perfectly so that our food was hot and freshly cooked when we arrived (about 20 minutes after the kitchen shut down - I think the kitchen kept cooking after 9 PM just for us), had utensils for us and everything bagged and ready to go. The food is always top notch. From the Bruschetta app to the scallops entree, to small pizzas that my wife and I split. My only complaint about the food is I sometimes feel like the plate should have a little more of the main course, side dish, and veggie on it. However, I never leave hungry. You can't go wrong at The Alley House Grille!

Every bite and sip of wine was delicious. Lovely dining atmosphere. Shrimp and chile cheese grits were amazingly creamy and the ahi tuna perfectly sesame-pepper crusted with grilled bok choy. Love Love Love this place. A wonderful accent to beautiful Pagosa Springs.

Hip settings, great food and exciting dishes. FOOD - Seared (coated w/ sesame) tuna dish was out of this world. The mayonnaise, wasabi + soy sauce combo was super-licious. The pizza was good, nice crest. The house salad's medley of greens and dressing was interestingly balanced. ATMOSPHERE - a bit formal and nice. Not stuffy. LOGISTICS - on highway 160, lot of parking around it. CREATIVITY - quite a few original dishes.

This is what we were hoping for when we asked for a suggestion from our B&B. Gorgeous little house with seating inside and out and very friendly folks. We asked for some recommendations (and gluten-free options) and had a terrific meal. I got the grilled scallops wrapped in bacon over an Asian slaw - nice and balanced and exactly the lighter dinner I asked for. The slaw makes it - with a bit of spice and sweetness. My wife had salmon dish, cooked perfectly which she throughly enjoyed. We also shared the beet salad - which was huge and tipped us off that we were in for a good meal. When we're back in Pagosa Springs or nearby, we're back at the Alley House Grille.

After a great day of skiing, nothing is better for me than a local microbrew on tap, followed by an interesting and tasty appetizer and a perfectly prepared steak. It goes without saying that a nice wine list- especially by the glass- can add to the overall experience. My fellow diners seemed to enjoy the Ahi Tuna and the Colorado Lamb Chops, but I am a steak man myself when I have been skiing. Initially, this seems like a restaurant built especially for out-of-town skiers. But there were a surprising number of locals there, and everyone was having a good time. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and as I walked out, the atmosphere made me want to stay - if only I had passed on those last two runs.

We were very pleased that they stayed open for us late-at-night on May 15th. This was the best dinner we had on our entire trip! Chris, our server, was wonderful and very helpful. His wine recommendation was top-notch. Every portion of our meal was fabulous - my wife's salmon was the best she or I have ever tasted. If you are in the area, you must stop here for dinner. I wish they were a bit closer to NJ : )

Love this place...nothing is better than steak and lobster served by cool young staff who know their way around a wine list. This is by far the best restaurant in Pagosa Springs, CO.!! The atmosphere is fun and hip, casual yet sophisticated. The wine list is to die for and I love it when every item on my plate has a different flavor. A must visit when here for sure!

I can't say enough about how impressed my husband and I were when we ate here last night! The server was knowledable and attentive. The crab cake appetizer was superb. Salad was wonderful! The entrees incorporate great flavors that complimented each other SO well! Followed by a pleasantly interesting coconut cheesecake with a curry whipped cream and peanut crust. Unbelievable! We will DEFINITELY be going again before leaving town to try other entrees. I have a sneaky suspicion anything you order would be great!

Osso Buco .... Osso good! We ate here a few days ago. Over the top great food and service. First, the service was great. Attentive, friendly but not obtrusive. One of my irritations is that wait staff will interrupt you mid sentence. None of that. Second, the food was great. we had a couple house salads. Tasty, fresh ingredients. The two entree's we ordered, the special, osso buco, and the seared tuna, was excellent. And we split a chocolate cake that was exceptional. The portions were healthy. You can easily over indulge here. I live in San Francisco Bay Area so we have had lots of top dining experiences. This would be in my top ten. I want to go back and try the fillet and lobster that everybody was ordering. That looked great. Kudo's Alley House Grille!

  • E S.

If the food had tasted anywhere near as delicious as the menu read this would be a 5 star review. The waitress told me her favorite dish is the petite fillet, which comes with wasabi mashed potatoes and bok choy. When the dish came there were no potatoes and the bok choy was sort of wilted and raw! The waitress winced and said that's how it comes! And the mashed potatoes? "oh yeah we ran out of that." !!!! Instead I got a sad excuse at "fiesta rice" which was soggy and flavorless. My fillet, albeit was good but was overbooked to my specification. After a glass of wine, burnt jalapeño bread and the fillet it was a $45 very average meal. Friends have remarked perhaps this place has gone down hill. I wouldn't know, but they'd better lower the prices if they are going to be half-hearted about their meals. If you care less, I pay less.

Being from out of town (and a VERY long way away) the Alley House was recommended to us by the fine folks at Wyndham. As is tradition on our final evening of a stay, we went to a fine restaurant to conclude out vacation. The Alley lived up to its reputation, and our family of four were served affine series of meals and excellent desserts. From the chicken breast to the pizza to the halibut to the lamb chops, the food was excellent. I don't know when/if we'll be back to the area, but if we do, we will most definitely come calling again!!!!!

A great, varied menu. They even had a good vegetarian entree or two. Unfortunately, they didn't have a gluten free menu, but the waitress was very helpful to find out what was and wasn't gluten free. They even allowed us to substitute items to be more accommodating. They seemed to have an extensive wine list and, while the beer list was short, they had some good craft beer options.

Alley House has been a long time favorite of mine. the food and the service is truly outstanding. everything on the menu is a bit on the high-side in terms of price but it's worth it, particularly the petite filets. but i've heard rave reviews for basically everything else on the menu as well. the staff is probably the best in town. in pagosa you usually get either great food or great service, but hardly ever both. Alley House is one of those rare exceptions in that it has both. i would give the Alley House 5 stars if it wasn't so loud inside at times. it's doesn't take too many patrons to get the abient noise indoors well above a desired level. but if this isn't that big of a deal to you (even if it is), the food is worth it. in the summer, the outside deck is open and is a great place to enjoy the cool Colorado evenings. oh, and during tourist season (summer and dec-jan), i'd highly recommend making a reservation. enjoy...

My husband and i have eaten here twice now. The first time we ate there , the mussels with the curry sauce was amazing and our entrees were delicious. However the second time we ate there the food wasn't very good. The garlic bread appetizer was not good at all. I'm a garlic lover and the bread was 3 inches thick with a tiny little layer of cheese on top and there was no garlic. The bread was so heavy. The sides of the bread were not even darkened or buttered. Not good at all. My husbands rack of lamb was ok at best. There wasn't very much flavor. It looked very appetizing but not very flavorful. My duck was very good but everything else wasn't as good as expected. My waitress wasn't around very often. We waited for a little while on everything but she was nice when around. I would come back to this restaurant one more time but it would have to e pretty good.

If you're going to splurge while in Pagosa, this is the place to do it. Interesting restored home setting with a very attentive waitstaff. Good selection of alcohol. They have a varied menu but in my opinion, try to hard to be unique. My friend had elk loin which was quite tasty and I had the ahi tuna. Definitely save room for dessert! One of the owners is a pastry chef (or so our waitress said) and both desserts we had were great. The flourless dark chocolate cake was amazing and my friend's apple cobbler was pretty good too. This place will fill up, reservations recommended! If you're looking for something cheaper, head across the street to Farrago's (same owners).

Thank you Bobby T for steering us towards The Alley House !!!! Hands down, this was the best meal of our Vacation Week, and we would have eaten here more often if they were open Sunday and Monday ( they reopen during season ). Reservations were made the day prior, and our table was waiting even though we arrived early to cocktail a bit prior to dinner. The Host was adorable -- cute, funny, and very helpful -- if he wasn't working, we would have invited him to have a drink with us. Our Server was professional, businesslike and ran her tables like she owned the restaurant. Timing was perfect. Courses never overlapped, and she had an uncanny way of knowing when we were done vs just taking a break. Enough on the service -- it's about the food, right. The food was THE BEST of the week. We started with mussels in a heavenly broth which went nicely with the wine -- I have to note: not a grain of sand or grit in these tiny perfect mussels -- really nice starter. Entrees were Ahi and Seafood Udon, which was almost Chippino like, but had Udon instead of pasta, and Asian inspired broth vs tomato based. Perfection !!!! I even hesitated on the Ahi, relaying the recent frozen Ahi dinner I had at the Lobby in Denver. No frozen fish here. It was perfectly seared with a flavorful jasmine rice accompaniment. The Udon had tons of mussels ( overkill with the mussel appy; next time we'll sub them out), clams, shrimp, scallops, and a beautiful piece of salmon. YUM I wanted so badly to try a desert, but alas, there was just no room. We're already planning a quick getaway late Summer, and the Alley House will be part of the plan -- even if we have to drive serious miles to get there.

Recommended by the RD at the Hot Springs Inn, dinner was one of the most memorable cuts of prime rib I've eaten. Slow smoked with a pesto/sun dried tomato au jus, fresh asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes... service was on par with any of the better restaurants I've been to. Top off dinner with a huge white chocolate bread pudding, Wow!

The Alley House Grilled in Pagosa Springs was a welcome retreat following a long day at powder laden Wolf Creek. The atmosphere was very cozy, especially with our table in arm's reach of the fireplace. The manager saved us this nice table, because we called ahead for reservations, and even though another couple entered the establishment before us, he honored our reservation. The menu at the Alley House seemed modern American, with plenty of pasta and vegetarian dishes, to accompany the pizza and seafood specials. I remember a fantastic spinach and pear salad with Humbolt Fog cheese and a great manchego, basil, and sun dried tomato bruschetta. For the main course, my wife had the eggplant pizza, which I felt was thyme overkill, but I had an excellent grilled polenta with mushrooms, zucchini and sun dried tomato. We will definitely visit the Alley House Grille again, when we return to Pagosa Springs!

Flat iron steak was surprising tender. Trout portion was large and extremely flavorful. Wasabi aioli and the other sauces with the calamari were great. Calamari could have been slightly more tender. Solid wine list. Nice atmosphere. Will be back!

Well recommended so we took it in on our anniversary. Very nice. Wife loved her meal and wine. My steak was under cooked and I gave it to her. She loved it. Waitress never asked what my drink should be. I let it go and drank water. Expensive but pretty good. Doubt I'll go again. Redeeming point was hostess/owner. Atmosphere was neat. Three and a half stars.

Not impressed, food and and service was mediocre at best. We each got an app and a salad and split a bottle of wine, neither of the seafood appetizers tasted very fresh and the bread and sauces seemed uninspired. The Thai Caesar salad was actually the best thing that we had, the other was so different than described that we sent it back, no one offered to remove it from our bill so totaled 100 with tip.

Excellent meal and service. Nice patio. Had salads and Mountain Man pizza. Other dishes looked equally appetizing.

I dined with Sy N. and agree with his assessment completely, although I would add that the food came out lightning fast and I'm giving this place 4 stars because I suspect it is the very best Pagosa has to offer and I 100% would come back here. That said, the chocolate ganache tart was such a fail that it needs specific mention. Which is crazy because the flavors were good. But when we got it, I literally thought they forgot to give us the tart part of the dessert (and asked) because the tart shell was empty but for the thinnest layer of chocolate and then the large scoop of ice cream. (Think drizzle of chocolate syrup that had dried.) Like I said, tasty, but not a tart.

I've eaten here 4-5 times over the years, and each time I've found it to be a wonderful, bright spot in this beautiful little town! We have experienced great food and atmosphere at the Alley House after a long drive or motorcycle ride from Colo Spgs or Ouray (no, this isn't a biker bar - the cosy, upscale vibe is more fitting for my Ducati diva-like sensibilities), and it's within walking distance of downtown and the hot springs. The building is a converted house with a cute, manicured front lawn and expansive patio that is swept clean and adorned with hanging blossoms. Inside, you immediately notice that this is probably Pagosa's fanciest joint with intimate lighting, tasteful paintings, warm decor, and tablecloths. Full bar. It can be romantic, but I've also seen larger groups celebrating special occasions. Diners actually dress up to eat here (though I've been here in t-shirt & jeans), and tend towards the mature and local set. My meals have always been great. IMO, it can certainly compete with the higher caliber places in Denver, which means I find the Alley House Grille better than nearly most of the establishments in Colo Spgs. Keep in mind, however, that the prices reflect this. But with Pagosa being much more isolated than any big city, it's amazing they can even get the level of freshness and quality that they have! The menu changes seasonally. I had an awesome pork chop last autumn that was accompanied by a heavenly peach tart with subtle dollops of a sweet, mild goat cheese. The tart was so amazing that it inspired me to try making a few variations at home! The ahi tuna was also good - the thick slices (maybe too thick) of seasoned, rare tuna steak were extremely filling. The jerk chicken pizza on a different visit was delicious with great flavor, crunch and chewiness; I think I ordered one as an entree. The crab cake appetizers were also good, but I recall ours came out on the dry side. Overall, the amount of food overall is large, too, with no corners cut on the entrees, pizzas, and even dessert (the bread pudding was the size of half a loaf!). I've also enjoyed their mojitos - balanced and fragrant with sprigs of lavender. Service is friendly and laid back. And remember, this is SW Colorado so the pace may be slower, though no less attentive. Knowledgeable servers are courteous and uniformed, and we've had anything from affable slightly aloof. As a general rule, they seem to care. I believe they only do dinner service except for weekend brunch (which I've also had here), and reservations are highly recommended. If it's nice weather, request to be seated on the patio. Whenever we go to Pagosa Springs, we make it a point eat here... and so should you!

Alley House Grille is the premier dining destination in Pagosa Springs offering an elegant but casual atmosphere featuring Global/Colorado style fusion cuisine. A refined but friendly atmosphere in a beautifully restored 1912 cottage. Great food and dining experience while never forgetting their small town hospitality. Our waitress Ivy was super. Great find in an incredible area.

I will start by saying this restaurant is one of my favorites. My family and I visit Pagosa for several weeks each year and dine here several times each trip. Generally, we have a great experience. Tonight was very different. Granted, it's New Year's Eve and not the best night to go out and expect a good experience, but we are fairly easy to please. We walked in at approximate 520pm, arriving early because we knew we didn't have reservations and they were booked solid, hoping we might snag a few bar seats. The Manager said they had a no-show and a table is available but we'd have to be done within an hour and ten minutes to accommodate the next reservation. We assured them we wouldn't linger. We ordered promptly, no drinks just ordered the food right away. My husband ordered the Seared Ahi, which is hands down my favorite dish here. But it arrived cooked almost well done. He sent it back, and it took about 15 minutes before his new dish arrived, which was honestly just sushi (no sear) but he was pleased to not have an overcooked piece of ahi. My scallops were luke warm at best. We ordered dessert, and when it was brought to our table the manager arrived to tell us the other party for 630p reservation had arrived. We hurriedly ate our dessert and paid as quickly as we could. The time was 633p at that point. The manager was curt and not accommodating at all. We were dressed casually and felt like our lack of being welcomed and treated like a valued guest was a result of that. Was it really necessary to hurry us along unnecessarily, especially when we would have been right on time had my husbands meal not been ruined? We have money to spend at restaurants and were treated like we didn't belong. Too bad, the rest of the staff was great and food is really good generally (although ahi should never be so overcooked). The manager really put a negative spin on our evening, thought the whole thing was poor taste.

I would have liked to give a four-star review to this restaurant, but based upon my experience here, three is a bit generous. Just about everything we got (I was in a group of five) was pretty tasty, and the service was solid. Where this place falls short, I'm afraid, is in execution and details. Seared ahi had good flavors, and was overall a nice dish, but it looked like the chef cut it (or mauled it, rather) with a butter knife. The slices were thick and hard to cut, so the dish, at minimum, ought to have been accompanied by a steak knife. The roasted beat salad had terrible proportions. It would have needed AT LEAST four times as much goat cheese to really rock. More nuts would have helped a little as well. The desserts were so so. The flourless chocolate cake -- which I would bet wasn't made in-house -- desperately needed something to breakup it's heaviness and richness. (The blackberries and blackberry sauce did little on that front.) We also ordered the so-called "chocolate tart" with coffee ice cream. It was tasty, but was not a tart, but rather a tart pastry shell with a light coating of chocolate inside, that held a scoop of coffee ice cream. (The dish balanced the rich chocolate cake well, however.) My biggest criticism with this lovely restaurant is that they do not allow outside wines. When they say "no corkage" here, what they really mean is "f you." This is absolutely unheard of, and would justify instant loss of a star in any review. But... Despite the idiocy of their "no corkage" rule, and their plentiful execution errors, it's a nice little place that I would not hesitate to return to.

We came here for dinner on my 30th birthday. We booked an outside table and got to sit right out front, beautiful view. We got a bottle of wine, appetiser & entree each and the bill came to about $200!! The food was great, and huge servings. I had the mussel soup and then a steak, he had the duck and then a different steak. When the appetisers came out we both looked at each other and said, maybe should have shared...but we took the rest of our entrees home and went without desert!

I waited four years to come back to AHG. I remember having a meal there that was perfect- exactly what I wanted at exactly the right time. I could recall the flavors, the atmosphere, and the company. I was hoping to replicate that again- and AHG was spot on. Calamari was light and the sauces were perfectly unique from one another. We couldn't even decide which was better. I had the Filet with the Cabernet Miso Bacon Beurre Rouge. I told our waitress that I was actually angry when I had to eat the last bite because I didn't want it to end. Out of this world. So now I've had two perfect meals at AHG. The bar has been raised again. My expectations are through the roof. But whenever the next time is, that I make the five hour drive to AHG- it'll no doubt be worth it.

Disclaimer: we didn't eat the food because the staff was rude and the water had floaties. After reading such great reviews for this place, we decided to make a reservation and try it out. We entered the building, the hostess looked at us and did not greet us and when we said, "hi, we have a reservation..." She retorted with a snappy "yeah." She seemed upset we wanted to sit outside, but lead us there without saying a word. Our waitress Jamie, who was very sweet, greeted us and told us water was on the way. Another snotty waitress slammed our water on the table and stormed away. I noticed my water had weird particles floating in it and we wanted to sneak out because we were disgusted and didn't feel comfortable with the atmosphere but Jamie stopped us. We asked about the water and she said it was lemon, but we couldn't see the actual lemon...I would assume a lemon slice wouldn't be too difficult to provide for a place charging $30-40 a plate!! Skip this place. They want to be fancy and seem to be doing it poorly!

This is definitely my favorite restaurant in Pagosa and my go to place for special occasions and date nights. The service has never disappointed me. My recommendation is to call a day in advance to book a reservation. They are usually pretty busy. Favorite appetizer is their mussels. Prior to trying The Alley House's mussels, I was not a fan but that changed with theirs. The sauce is the best and and if you do not share, it is a meal on its own. As far as Entrees go, everything is amazing. The last item I had was their Brined Roasted half chicken and I had enough for leftovers. The wine list has never disappointed me and their dessert is the best in town.

Our server Dana was awesome and very good at what he does The wine and dinner and dessert was exceptional and sitting on the patio was amazing! I felt like I was in Europe and will deffinetly come back when I'm in town. I had the lobster tail and steak and it was to die for and my girlfriend got the pasta because she is a vegetarian and it was also great! All around great experience

This was our last night in Pagosa, we saved the best for last! Ashley was our server- very kind and attentive! Jim, I believe, is one of the owners, and he came to our table and spoke to us a couple of times, making this Texan couple feel very welcome! The food was excellent! We are very picky with our food, and we were not disappointed. My husband ordered the lamb, I ordered the filet. Temps were perfect with both. Vegetables were fresh and crisp. Zero complaints- very fine dining in the small town, big character town of Pagosa Springs!!

OMG. The food here was so delicious. The ambience was cozy and warm. The service was good, but the five stars is definitely for the food. We ordered the lobster Mac and cheese with gruyere ahh! Too good. Then we had the lamb and ahi tuna steak. I died so many times. The tuna was seared and crusted with sesame seeds on rice, seaweed salad and wasabi aoli. And then the lamb, holy crap. It literally melted in my mouth. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be back.

Had the most amazing dinner here tonite. The salmon was to die for. When the waitress knew to ask ME how I wanted it cooked, I knew we were in the right place. The special filet with demi glace and a shrimp cream sauce was also incredible. I would eat here regularly if I were local. Truly the best salmon (or in the top 5) ever. Dessert menu looked awesome but we passed on that. Luckily I have lots of willpower....

When we arrived, we had to sit outside because they had so many reservations, it was nice just a little cold. Our server was a little cold initially, the salads were really good, we had both the house and beet salad, I wish we had more beets, there were 6 thinly sliced beet halfs. We all ordered pizza the "mountain man and the black and blue." It was great. Our server forgot the calamari, but when it arrived we could not bite through and it was very chewy, we cancelled it. We had dessert, the chocolate mousse and pineapple upside down cake, both great, but ask the server for the cake to be warmed. Would go back!

Awesome!!! My wife and I had one of the best meals ever when we passed through Pagosa Springs in early August. She ordered the Rainbow Trout, and I had the Ribeye. Both were excellent! If you can save room for the dessert....the apple cobbler ice cream dealio is off-the-hook. It's only calories.

In a word amazing. The service was perfect. Drinks were kept, full plates were cleaned up when we were done. There were 5 of us that ate here and it was a little pricey but worth every single penny. Food was cooked to perfection. The menu was limited but great for everyone from our 7 year old that had pizza to me that rack of lamb. I consider myself a pretty good cook and when I go out i ask myself could I do better than this at home. The answer on every meal was i dont think so I will be back. Like I said not a cheap meal but portions are good and quality is 5 stars.

Alley House was a great choice for our anniversary dinner during our first trip to Pagosa Springs. The historic century old home is beautifully restored and has a warm and inviting atmosphere. We sat inside due to the threat of rain but otherwise we would have enjoyed the spacious deck. Since Pagosa Springs is adjacent to one of the most remote mountain wilderness areas in the United States, it seems strange to me that the menu includes a lot of seafood dishes. But, apparently, fresh seafood is shipped to the restaurant daily. Never ones to pass up fresh seafood, we started with the Hawaiian poke salad. The tuna was divine and the sauce was light and flavorful. Unfortunately, the kitchen was out of my seafood entree choice, Colorado striped bass, so I had to go with beef tenderloin instead. It was a great back-up option. The steak was cooked perfectly and served with tasty whipped potatoes and broccolini. I am normally afraid of sauce on steaks but the red wine mushroom sauce was not overpowering and I quite enjoyed it. For dessert, we shared the creme brulee. It was presented in a deep bowl and the bottom didn't set up right, so it was more like a pudding. We didn't mind, though, because the flavor was just right. Our service was friendly and unhurried. Reservations are accepted and I suspect mandatory during the peak seasons. Alley House is certainly a lovely venue for an upscale dinner in Pagosa Springs and I do hope to make a return visit next time I'm in town.

Dinner here was quite the treat, a wrap to the end of my afternoon at the Resort. After scrubbing the sulphur from my skin, I looked around town for a steakhouse. While the Alley House wasn't explicitly a steakhouse, it fit the bill. Built into a historic house on the main drag of Pagosa Springs, this restaurant was great. Great atmosphere, a bar well stocked with whiskys complimented by a thorough wine list, and a nice deck for outside seating too. The clientèle seemed to a mix of both local regulars and out-of-towners, but it is a great little hideaway. As others have stated, this land-locked and mountainous eatery has a surprising amount of Atlantic and Pacific seafood on the menu, but it is well balanced with savoury Lamb and Beef dishes, rather than a predictable menu of tournedos.

We may have had an uncommon experience here, but after we were seated we literally sat for 20 minutes without even getting a drink order in. It might not sound like a long time, but sitting there waiting for food and watching all the tables around us get service made it seem like a long time. My husband finally went to speak to the hostess about it and we were assigned a waiter, but who knows how long it would've taken if he hadn't said anything. No one ever paused to ask if we'd been helped or needed anything. I was surprised considering it's supposed to be a nicer place in Pagosa, so I'd expect better service. When we finally ordered we got truffle fries, a special for the night. They were yummy. I got a grilled chicken dish that came with some charred corn whipped potatoes, it was pretty good for a chicken dish. My husband got bacon wrapped scallops, said they were okay. All in all it was nice, prices were reflective of a fancier restaurant.

Wow! 6 stars. We were staying at The Springs Resort, and the concierge told us to eat here. Their current rating does not reflect our experience at all. It was stellar. If you don't make a reservation for a Friday night, chances are you'll be at the high top tables. Doesn't matter. Service was 5 stars. Food was 5 stars. Atmosphere was 5 stars. I wish that this restaurant was closer to our home in Littleton. Price point was reasonable for the quality of this restaurant. We weren't too hungry and decided to split the Surf and Turf. Fabulous choice. They also make their own ginger beer!! That's seriously awesome. The house salad was enormous (Texas portions?) and was just ok. We split between 2 people, but neither of us wanted to finish (more due to size than to taste). The dressing seemed to overpower the rest of the salad. Doesn't matter. Our waiter was great. Everything else was great. Don't bother going anywhere else. Better yet - make the trip! You won't be disappointed.

The rainbow trout with the potato fingerlings and cranberry almond ......something was really good. My bf had the chicken, which was the most drab thing on the menu, he said it was ok. The broccoli was a little tough. Trout was perfect though

We had another marvelous experience at the Alley Grille tonight. I had the Thai Cesar Salad, which was exceptional, with the fried capers and pickled ginger! Then I had the special which was Mac and cheese with lobster and truffles in a Gruyere cheese sauce baked with Panko bread crumbs and parmigiana Reggiano on top. And for dessert the streusel!! My husband had the strawberry salad with feta spinach and candied pecans and a strawberry vinegar eye. His entree was the flat iron steak which was very tasty with the chimichurri sauce and his dessert was the white chocolate bread pudding!! All in all an excellent meal we were running late and they held our table for us! The service was excellent as well! We will definitely return!

It was DIVINE! I consider myself a big foodie...love to cook, love to eat, and the special of the evening was this cherry/berry medley braised beef short ribs that were melt in your mouth, chunks of heaven, accompanied by mashed potatos and broccolini. With a glass of cabernet sauvignon, I was making music in my mouth, it was THAT good. We ordered 2 desserts -- the flourless dark chocolate cake is absolutely rich and decadent, whereas the strudel was perfectly light and palate cleansing and way easier to finish than the dense and sinful chocolate counterpart. 2 thumbs up! Good service and ambiance make this 5 stars, absolutely.

Stopped in solo for a bite to eat after a day of soaking at The Springs and was VERY pleased!! The patio was just lovely on a beautiful evening, and everything was delicious and beautiful. I had the strawberry salad and black & blue pizza, yum!! I had a glass of pinot noir and was stoked that it was a very generous pour. For dessert I got the tart filled with lemon custard and berres--so good. It was a great experience from start to finish, and i would highly recommend checking this place out when in the area!!
